Amazing Spider-Man #638

Ok, let me begin by telling you that I hated the “One More Day” storyline.  I could write an entire essay and still not cover everything I thought was wrong with that storyline.  While, it was not my intention to write such an essay that is what started to happen each time I sat down to write a review of this issue.  When this current storyline is over I might write a lengthy review of the whole thing and include my thoughts on “One More Day” but this is not the time or place.

SPOILER WARNING  The story begins with a framing sequence of Mary Jane paying a surprise visit to Peter at his apartment.  There she makes the announcement that she would like to be friends with Peter again but she knows they have issues they need to talk out first.  Peter agrees with all this and the two of them sit down to talk.  Their conversation then takes the reader back to 1987 and Amazing Spider-Man Annual #21 when Peter and Mary Jane first got married.  These flash backs are told by using pages from Amazing Spider-Man Annual #21 with new material mixed in.  END SPOILER WARNING  I will say that mixing the original wedding issue in with new material was very clever and well done.  Whether this new material is just adding unnecessary details to an old story or whether it will have real meaning remains to be seen.  Occasionally, the story jumps back to the framing sequence so Peter and Mary Jane can comment on past event but most of the issue is set in the past.

This storyline obviously has a long way to go so, at this time, I really can’t say if this was a good or bad issue.  As I said, at the beginning, I hated “One More Day” and based on what many people have told me, I think I’m safe in saying, I’m not alone but I’m sure some people loved the story.  That being the case, at this moment, the most I can say about Amazing Spider-Man #638 is that if you loved “One More Day” you’ll want to read this issue.  On the other hand, if you hated “One More Day” then you’ll probably want to wait and see what happens in the whole “One Moment In Time” storyline.  If Marvel is just tinkering with “One More Day” you can skip this whole new storyline but if Marvel is doing a major overhaul then you will want to get all of “One Moment In Time”.
