Batman: Odyssey #1

Neal Adams’ work on Batman is legendary so how could I or any other Batman fan not look forward to this series.  Still, I have to say that after reading this issue, I’m not looking forward to the rest of this series like I once was.  Every creator has his or her own take on a character but in this issue Neal Adams’ version of Batman seems better suited to an Elseworld story.  In case I haven’t made myself clear, I did not like this first issue of Batman: Odyssey.  While, Neal Adams’ artwork is first rate his characterization of Batman simply didn’t seem like Batman at all.  On top of that, the story itself seemed to be all over the place with no point of focus.  At this point, I’d like to tell you what the story was about but I really don’t know myself.  The only positive thing I can say about the story is that this is only part one of a twelve part storyline so maybe it’s just getting off to a slow start.  I have enough interest in Batman and enough faith in Neal Adams that I will give the next issue a try and see if it gets better.  If you are not a big Batman or Neal Adams fan then you can give this issue a pass and wait and see if the series improves.  If the series does improve you can always go back and pick-up any issues you may have missed at a later date.
