Invaders Now! #1

Some comic books are harder to review then others.  Invaders Now! number one is one of the easy ones to review.  The reason this comic book is so easy to review is because not a lot happens.  This first issue is all about introducing the threat and then bringing the entire original Invaders (except for Union Jack who is dead) back together again.

SPOILER WARNING  The issue opens at a hospital in The Netherlands where a patient walks into the emergency room suffering from some fast acting contagion that transforms it’s victims into violent monsters.  The contagion is contained but not before local police are forced to kill the original patient along with a doctor and nurse who became infected.  The incident is brought to the attention of Steve Rogers who immediately recognizes the contagion.  It is then that the original Vision shows up in Steve’s office and informs him that only the original Invaders can deal with this threat from the past.  The rest of the issue is simply the Vision going around and rounding up the original Invaders.  END SPOILER WARNING

Since, this issue is all about introducing the threat and rounding up the team it does not make for an exciting first issue.  Getting all this done, in this one issue, does clear the decks so that the action can really take off in the next issue.  What all this really means is that I’ll have to wait for the next issue, before I can make any kind of judgment, about how good this series will end up being.  Two quick points; if you do pick-up this issue.  Number one, pay attention to Toro’s comments about all the crazy people in the world going around talking to themselves.  Number two, the supposedly shocking statement Steve Rogers makes on the last page is not shocking at all.  The reason behind his statement already seems pretty clear.
