Uncanny X-Force #1
It has been a long time since I read a main stream X-book. The last X-book that I read was Chris Claremont’s X-Treme X-Men; so I thought I was overdue to try another. Well, after reading the first issue of Uncanny X-Force it may be an equally long time before I read another X-book. Let me be very clear, I’m not saying this issue was bad but it’s just that it was clearly written for established X-fans. If you are like me and have not been reading the X-family of titles then you will be just as lost, reading this issue, as I was. A good example, of what I mean, is that there was one character who I had no idea who he was, what his powers where or even what his name was. I only learned that his name is, Fantomex, by reading the text piece after the main story. I do give Marvel credit for providing that text piece, in an effort, to bring new readers up to speed on what happened in the previous X-Force series. In the end, however, this issue simply is not a good jumping on point for new readers. In reality, this is not even the beginning of a new series at all but the continuation of the previous X-Force series. The bottom line is, if you liked the previous X-Force series you should pick-up this series, you’ll probably enjoy it. On the other hand, if you where not reading the last X-Force ongoing series you are probably better off waiting for a true jumping on point to come along. This issue just was not accessible to new readers.
