Doctor Who #1
I’ll get straight to the point with this review if you are a fan of the current Doctor Who TV series you are going to enjoy this comic. If you are not a fan of the current TV series then there is absolutely no reason for you to pick-up this comic. Don’t get me wrong this is not a bad comic, in fact, the artwork is solid and the story managers to be both entertaining, for Doctor Who fans, while at the same time including a commentary about our modern society. The commentary is about some peoples’ obsession with using modern technology to stay “in touch” and how this obsession can in turn lead to unwanted communication. You know the kind of communication that can get you into trouble. This commentary is delivered a little heavy-handedly and in many cases that would really hurt a story. In this case, I can forgive the writer for hitting the reader over the head so hard with this commentary since it is so true.
All in all, this comic reads like a side adventure set between episodes of the TV series. I’m sure this approach to the comic series is intentional but as I stated earlier that makes this comic really suitable only for fans of the TV show. If you are a fan and there are a lot of them then buy this issue and enjoy. If you’re not a fan then it’s safe to skip this issue.
