Sigil #1

Many people were fans of the original Sigil series from Crossgen; if you are were one of those fans don’t feel you have to rush out and pick-up this issue. Based on this first issue, it seems this series has nothing in common with the original series other then the name. I’ll be honest and say I don’t know why Disney, the parent company of Marvel, did this. They bought up the rights to all the old Crossgen characters, titles and concepts, presumably because they saw value in them, then they go ahead and completely change them. If Disney didn’t plan to make use of the original characters, titles or concepts then why buy them in the first place?

I’m sure the creative team that worked on this new Sigil series feels that they’ve improved upon the original or at least done something worth wild but just because they feel that way does not make it so. This issue was the single most boring comic I’ve read in years. Half way through this issue and I was already wondering how much more I had to read; I couldn’t wait for the issue to be over. I really thought about putting this comic down and getting something else to review. Much of this issue reads like some bad high school soap opera and I have no interest in reading something like that. The artwork in this issue is solid but that is not enough to recommend spending your hard earned money on this issue.

In fact, I was so disappointed with this issue that I don’t even feel like writing about it. I’ll just say that, in my opinion, there is no reason to buy this comic so go ahead and try a different title it has to be better than this one. If you really want to read Sigil go hunt down some of the original Crossgen issues those I think you’ll enjoy.
